For a long time I have felt a strong pull to move into this area, to help celebrate the lives of loved ones who have recently passed and help the living through the grieving process with a service that is comfortable, accessible, personal and heartfelt. While I have provided services for family and friends in the past, I was waiting for the door to open and for someone to ask before I entered the Funeral Celebrant world. I was also waiting to be of an age where I had had more personal experience with grief, so I could walk others through it with both empathy and deep understanding. At 42 I believe I have arrived.
I have personally experienced the grief of losing family members and friends who have died in old age, after long illnesses, from accidents, medically without warning and also who have taken their own life. I have held a service for a friend's much loved baby lost in the 18th week of pregnancy and also experienced a heartbreaking miscarriage myself.
In early February 2025 a Groom who I had married in 2018, got back in touch to ask if I could officiate a Celebration of Life for his Father, who I had briefly met at his wedding. I was honored to be asked and I found the experience very fulfilling, the feeling reminded me of the Japanese concept of "Ikigai". For 14 years I've been there for people in times of joy, to help them celebrate finding their greatest love, and I am now ready to be there for people in their times of grief also.
My first professional memorial service ended with the following quote from one of his favourite shows, Star Trek: The Next Generation.
“Death is that state in which one only exists
in the memory of others;
which is why it is not an end.
No goodbyes,
just good memories”.
I am best suited to those wishing for a more informal and non-religious ceremony, where we keep the tone warm, authentic, and poetic. Where we celebrate who they were, the life they lived, the lives they touched and the legacy they leave behind.
I am also available for memorials for those little lives lost in pregnancy or at/around birth. I would love to help grieving Mothers in particular with a fitting goodbye, to assist their grieving process, as it is a loss that is and always will be very close to my heart.
I am based in Glendowie Auckland. If you are in need of a local Celebrant for a funeral, a celebration of life, a memorial, burial or scattering of ashes, please give me a call/text on
